Honestly, I think we should start off by admiring those fantastic pink shoes.

This is part one of a Chili Peppers double-header. Feel free to guess what tomorrow’s round will be (zero points for cheating).

The results from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is in, and the results are conclusive: if you want to make your song even better, bring in a quarter of a million people to do backing vocals.

Now for today’s battle: Higher Ground is one of those “generational songs.” It was one of Wonder’s biggest hits, reaching #4 on the Billboard charts in 1973, but if you grew up in the 90's this is probably a Chili Peppers song first and foremost. I personally didn’t know their version was a cover until around the time it showed up on Guitar Hero (yes, I’m a little ashamed of that).

Stevie Wonder - 1973

Red Hot Chili Peppers - 1989

And if you haven’t voted in the battle between Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash, that one still has 26 hours to go before closing.

While I liked Stevie's version, the Peppers just had so much more energy in it, and I think the song is better for it.

It’s 2:1 for the Peppers at this point. What’s wrong with you people?

Voted for Stevie, though this one might be the closest one so far. I like the simpler 70's sound better than the 80's, even if RHCP is more energetic in this case.

Stevie by far. And I’m from the 90s.

Now we’re talkin’! It’s swinging closer to Stevie now.

I’m a fan of both of them. For this song, you gotta admit that the Peppers just sound muddy.

I said it when I suggested it last week, and I’ll say it again: Stevie Wonder is the only correct answer. And I say that as a fan of RHCP.

At some point, you’ll have to do All Along The Watchtower. That will be an epic battle, since there are about 47 different renditions of it.

Well me being an antique, naturally I voted for ol’ Stevland, but I have to admit that the RHCP cover, which I had never heard before (why no, I did not grow up in the ‘90s) was pretty decent. But Stevie, wow, wow, you all just listen to this now:
